I thought it was finally time to get this feature out of my mind and online! Here are some of the female illustrators on dA which I love and would love to own any children books from. It was tough just picking ONE piece from each artists so please do check out their galleries.

My limit of 20 proved difficult so it ended up being 30 but it could have easily been 40 but I realised I had to stop myself :giggle:

The childrens book project

I've had this thought for ages really and it grew stronger when I bought books for childrens in Crisis from Unicef as Christmas presents and while doing above feature I decided to write my idea down and tell it to you all.

I collect childrens books, I have a bunch of them, and I try to buy books for my step brothers little daughter (Freja) and I realise how hard it is to find strong and independent girls as the main character. I try to find books for Freja that isn't stereotypical (white) helpless princesses or just girly idiots and it's tough. For Christmas she got a book about a girl that takes care of a wounded duck and then let it go when it's healed, one of my favourite books.

In Sweden we also have a special publishing company that is all about gender bending and such, but even there it's mostly boys (like a book about a boy who wears a dress and gets awesome at football because of it so then all boys and men in the city starts wearing dresses) but I'm still missing the girls.

Therefore, my plan is to do a kickstarter project with at least 5 books (that means 5 illustrators and 5 writers). I'm also hoping to translate these into several languages. Maybe spread these at hospitals and kindergartens or something? One thought is if the artists/writers should be female to empower this even more, but unsure if I should limit this project like this. Input would be great.

I also need to figure out how the print these, probably on demand or maybe as pdf? Any suggestions?

This is a volunteer job for myself so if you want to join in be aware I cannot pay you.

It's a big project but 2014 have just begun. Hopefully if all goes well we have something tangible by 2015!

What is needed:
> story writers (5)
> illustrators (5)
> translators (endlessly)

I'm thinking books with 30-40 pages.

I'd love some input and if you're interested in helping out I'd love it if you did.

awwww, thank you so much for including me in this feature! I'm so late with my dA messages :dead:
Your project sounds amazing, I would join but I have projects booked until the end of the year...
